A new client to Equipment begins with an Initial Assessment with one of our instructors in a one-on-one environment. The instructor does a thorough assessment of the client’s exercise history, injury history (if applicable), ranges of movement in all joints, stability, flexibility and alignment in their body. After collating and assessing this information, the instructor will formulate a detailed workout for that individual. There then follows a One-on-One class where the client learns the principles of the Pilates method and the breathing techniques. After this class if both instructor and client feel confident, the client moves into a group Equipment class. This is kept to a maximum of only 3 people per instructor so that the quality of attention and care is of the highest calibre.
They are designed to provide a total body workout with particular focus on the core muscle groups of the abdominal and back. Regular attendance at these classes will help you increase body tone, strength and flexibility, and contribute to your overall health and fitness.
Pilates Mat classes are available every day of the week at our studio and are of one-hour duration. There are only a maximum of 7 clients per instructor, which facilitates our renowned personal attention and care.
Basic, Intermediate and Advanced classes are available. We recommend everyone complete a block of 5 Basic Mat classes to gain a solid understanding of the Pilates Principles before progressing. The different levels offered give you the opportunity to progress your workout over time and achieve your needs and fitness goals.
Instructors use a range of ‘props’ in the Mat classes to enhance and challenge your workout and to ensure it provides interest, variety and motivation in achieving your desired results. Props include Magic Circles, Thera-Bands, hand and ankle weights, gym balls and foam rollers. We also use appropriate mats, towels and pillows to ensure your workout is safe, comfortable and the most effective for your body.
We also offer children’s Pilates Mat classes for 8-12 years olds to help improve their coordination and balance while preventing bad posture or motor impairment. These classes are 45minutes in duration, and lots of fun too!
Equipment work in Pilates involves the use of specifically designed equipment to strengthen and lengthen the muscles, and align skeletal structures within the body. Equipment used at Queen St Pilates Studio includes the Trapeze Table, Reformer, Spine Corrector and Multi Chair. The instructors cater to clients’ needs with a specifically tailored individual program, addressing particular issues with a wide range such as injury rehabilitation or goals such as triathlons.
Equipment work can vary in skill level, from Rehabilitative to Advanced. On the Equipment you work with a resistance of springs at different strengths to either increase the demand of the exercise or to provide more support for the body and spine. This makes the equipment work suitable to anyone of all ages (over 14yrs of age) and skill level.
