Pilates is a physical fitness regime created by Joseph Pilates in America in the 1920s. It focuses on improved body awareness & posture it increases core stability for the spine & deeper abdominals, emphasises correct breathing patterns & improved flexibility for the whole body. It strengthens & tones the physique, creating long lean muscles without placing pressure on the joints. There is an emphasis on quality of movement rather than quantity, leaving the body feeling relaxed, energised & focussed. Exercises are performed on specialised equipment or on mats on the floor. Pilates is suitable for all ages, abilities & fitness levels including athletes, office workers, pregnant or new mothers, dancers, pensioners or anyone who requires specialsed rehabilitation.
